Compress image to a target KB
Shrink photos to the file size an application form or upload page asks for. Pick a target size, drop your photos, and download the compressed JPGs right away.
Your files never leave this device. Everything is processed inside your browser.
Fits under 200 KB
How to use
- Pick a target size. Use the number from the upload instructions, or choose Custom to type your own.
- Drop photos onto the box or press Choose photos. You can add several at once.
- Check the new file size and dimensions, then download. With several photos you can download them all as one ZIP.
How the compression works
FileFit first keeps the width and height as they are and lowers the JPG quality step by step, looking for the highest quality that still fits the target. Only when quality alone isn’t enough does it also reduce the dimensions. A generous target usually keeps the dimensions untouched, while a very small target makes the photo smaller. Photos above about 16.8 million pixels (width × height) are first scaled down to that limit so every device can process them reliably.
The result is saved as a JPG, the format almost every upload form accepts. Transparent areas in a PNG are filled with white, and iPhone HEIC photos are converted to JPG while they are compressed. The orientation the photo was taken in is kept, so it won’t end up sideways.
Some sites count 1 KB as 1,000 bytes and others as 1,024 bytes. FileFit uses the stricter 1,000-byte rule, so the file stays under the limit either way.
Everything happens inside the browser you are using. Your photos are never sent to a server, which makes it safe for ID cards and passport photos.
Questions
The site still says my file is too large. Why?
FileFit counts 1 KB as 1,000 bytes to leave a safety margin. If the file is still rejected, the site may also require specific pixel dimensions or a file type. Check the instructions again, and for passport or ID photos with a fixed size, use the passport & ID photo resizer first.
Will the photo lose a lot of quality?
FileFit picks the highest quality that fits your target. A typical phone photo compressed to around 200 KB looks almost the same on screen. Very small targets such as 50 KB also reduce the dimensions, so the photo can look soft when zoomed in.
Can I compress iPhone photos (HEIC)?
Yes. HEIC photos are converted to JPG and compressed to your target at the same time. If you only need a format change, use the HEIC to JPG tool.
Are my photos uploaded or stored?
No. Photos are processed only inside your browser on this device and are never sent or saved anywhere. Results disappear when you close the page, so download what you need.
How many photos can I compress at once?
There is no limit. Photos are processed one after another, so many large photos take a little longer. On a phone, very large batches can run out of memory, so add them in smaller groups.
Does it change my original photo?
No. Your original file stays as it is, and the compressed photo is downloaded as a new file.
