Passport & ID photo resizer

Make a JPG in the exact size of a Korean passport photo, a half-size ID photo or a US visa photo. Move and zoom your photo inside the frame, pick the part you want, and download it at the exact pixel size.

Your files never leave this device. Everything is processed inside your browser.

35 × 45 mm, 413 × 531 px

How to use

  1. Pick a size: Korean passport, half-size ID photo or US 2 × 2 inch, or choose Custom and enter a width and height in pixels. If the upload page has a file size limit, enter a max file size too.
  2. Drop a photo onto the box or press Choose photo. Drag the photo inside the frame, and zoom with the mouse wheel, a two-finger pinch or the slider, until the face lines up with the guide lines.
  3. Press Make photo, check the result and download it. If it isn’t right, adjust the position and make it again.

Sizes and how the photo is made

Three sizes are built in. A Korean passport photo is 35 × 45 mm according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs passport guide, which recommends 413 × 531 pixels for online applications. The half-size ID photo is 30 × 40 mm at 354 × 472 pixels, and the US visa and passport photo is a 2 × 2 inch square at 600 × 600 pixels. The US State Department digital photo requirements call for a square image of 600 × 600 to 1200 × 1200 pixels, in JPEG, at 240 KB or less, so choosing the US size fills the max file size box with 240. For any other size, use Custom.

Sizes given in millimeters or inches are converted to pixels at 300 dpi (1 inch = 2.54 cm). The file itself only matches the pixel count, so when you print it, set the print size to the real size, such as 35 × 45 mm. It then prints at 300 dpi.

Guide lines appear for the Korean passport and US sizes. Move and zoom the photo until the length from the crown to the chin falls between the inner and outer dotted lines. The reference is a head length of 32 to 36 mm for a Korean passport photo (about 71% to 80% of the photo height) and 50% to 69% of the photo height for the US size. The half-size photo has no official head length and a custom size has no reference, so no guide lines are shown.

FileFit does not change the background color or retouch the face. It only crops the part inside the frame and sets the size, so shoot the photo against the background your submission requires. Everything happens inside the browser you are using, and your photo is never sent to a server.

Questions

How many pixels is a passport photo?

413 × 531 pixels. The Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs passport guide gives the photo size as 35 × 45 mm and recommends 413 × 531 pixels for online applications. FileFit produces that size.

What if the site has a file size limit?

Enter a number in the max file size box. FileFit keeps the pixel dimensions and lowers only the JPG quality until the file fits. It counts 1 KB as 1,000 bytes to leave a margin. If the limit is too small to reach even at the lowest quality, it asks you to enter a larger value. Choosing the US size fills in the 240 KB from the requirements automatically.

Does it change the background color?

No. It does not change the background or retouch the face. Transparent areas in a PNG are filled with white. If the place you submit to requires a certain background color, shoot the photo against that color.

Will the site accept the photo as it is?

FileFit sets the size, proportions and file size, but it does not check what reviewers look at, such as expression, lighting and background. Requirements can change, so check the latest photo requirements on the website of the agency you are submitting to before you submit.

Can I use iPhone photos (HEIC)?

Yes. A HEIC photo opens directly for editing and the result is saved as a JPG. If you only need a format change, use the HEIC to JPG tool.

Is my photo uploaded or stored?

No. Photos are processed only inside your browser on this device and are never sent or saved anywhere. Results disappear when you close the page, so download what you need.
